Brian with Federal Minister Kate Ellis. Hi, welcome to my website. I'm Brian Wightman, your State Labor member for Bass.

As a former teacher and principal I understand the importance of education to our state's future. I know that education is the cornerstone of a productive economy. Investing in a first class education for all Tasmanians is critical to securing opportunities for our young people and building our community.

As a community leader I believe quality and affordable health care is a right of all Tasmanians. State and Federal Labor Government's are investing almost $100 million in capital works at the LGH and further money is being invested in health services at Scottsdale and George Town. Yet more needs to be done. Our senior citizens deserve the comfort of dedicated aged care facilities, not hospital beds meant for acute care patients.

Last year was a horror year on Tasmanian roads, a situation we must reverse. Better roads, stronger standards and driver education are all critical to ensuring we have safe and quality roads Tasmanians can rely on.

Tasmania's economy is strong and robust but recent manufacturing job losses have shown the need to draw more investment into the state and further diversify our economy. Under the Bartlett Government, Tasmania is leading the nation as the first state to roll out super-fast broadband services. This exciting opportunity for innovation will allow Tasmania to be a world leader in the digital economy.

I know you are as passionate about this state as I am.  Together we can continue building a strong and prosperous Tasmania.
